The valley opens out into broad, sun-soaked Mediterranean country. Grenache leads the famous GSM blends across Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Gigondas, Vacqueyras and the vast Côtes du Rhône. Tavel makes France's most serious rosé; Beaumes-de-Venise and Rasteau, sweet fortified wines.
