Switzerland's third region — flatter, sunny, and a quiet hotbed of grape diversity.
Where the Jura meets the Alps at the south-western tip of Lake Geneva, the canton's vineyards are gentler and flatter than its mountainous neighbours, catching good light between city and countryside. Historically the first place wine was grown on Swiss soil. Beyond Chasselas and Gamay, Geneva growers have led the way with modern Swiss crossings like Gamaret and Garanoir. Roughly 1,400 ha.
Gamaret was bred in Switzerland in 1970.
